All Day Kindergarten
Children who have completed one or two years of preschool and who will be 5 years of age in the fall may attend The Wetherill School 5 full days 9:00-3:00, spending the morning reinforcing their learning and serving as role models in a mixed-age setting, while joining with a group of kindergarten-age peers each afternoon, experiencing the curriculum described above in PM kindergarten. Children who joined the Wetherill community as 3- or 4-year-olds will remain in the same class in the morning.
For children who will be attending morning public school kindergarten in the fall, we offer a 5-day (Monday through Friday) afternoon kindergarten enrichment program to extend the kindergartener’s day. Children are bused from Gladwyne Elementary School to The Wetherill School, and students from other local elementary schools provide their own transportation, all arriving at noon and dismissing at 3:00. These children join with our Wetherill all-day kindergarten children each afternoon. Lessons are presented in social studies, science, music and movement, and art, as well as lessons and activities to reinforce the numeracy and literacy skills that the children are beginning to master. Weekly nature/environmental lessons are conducted by a specialist from Riverbend Environmental Center. Curriculum-related field trips are an additional feature of our PM kindergarten enrichment.
The Wetherill School contracts with teachers who specialize in Music and Movement including Yoga, Spanish, and Environmental Education. Children participate in these specialist classes during the school day each week.
